Map and Directions

Car hire is available from Avis and other companies at Rennes airport ,and at Laval and Le Mans rail stations, but you may prefer to bring your own vehicle. Coming from the UK by car we have usually used the overnight car ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo for a very civilised journey that takes place mostly while you sleep. Le Domaine des Hallais an easy two hour drive from there, with motorway nearly all the way. For more flexibility on the return journey, you may prefer to leave via Caen as the St Malo ferries only go back once a day, leaving in the morning.

We are about a 2 hour drive away from the Ouistreham (Caen) ferry port, using the motorway to Le Mans. Le Havre and Cherbourg are about 4 1/2 hours away. It is possible to take your car by rail to Calais on the Shuttle, but as it is then a 6-8 hour drive to us, we do not recommend this route unless you are stopping off along the way.

We recommend bringing a good French road atlas or a GPS if you come by car from the UK. They can be purchased on the ferries.

By Air and Rail / Air

We can also collect class participants from our nearest airports which are at Rennes and Tours; flights are available from several provincial UK airports. However, you will usually find that efficient (and low-cost) trips can also be made by air to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport followed by a connecting TGV rail journey to Le Mans.

By Rail

If you coming from the UK, the Eurostar train though the channel tunnel can take you from London to France, and if you are a part of small group, we can collect you from any of our three nearest train stations at Le Mans (best), Laval, or Sablé sur Sarthe, for a small charge. You can usually opt for a journey with a change at Lille Europe so you don't have to cross central Paris to make the connection but if you do go via Paris the connection is just one journey on the metro. Try to choose a TGV (fast) train to minimise journey time. If you come through Paris you will need to get to Montpaenasse station for the train to Le Mans (if you have come on Eurostar you arrive at Gare du Nord and should take the Metro line 4 across town).
